You\u2019re probably thinking that Botox\u00ae is usually a wrinkle-relaxing treatment, but the effect that it has on muscles is incredible. The use of Botox\u00ae injections reduces the activity of the muscle that lifts the upper lip, thus reducing the amount of gum tissue shown when smiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As with any treatment, it is key to have an initial assessment with a medical professional to confirm this is the right treatment for you. If you\u2019re suitable for the treatment, then all it takes is two tiny injections on either side of your nostrils to weaken the muscles that elevate your upper lip. The treatment itself takes less than 5 minutes and is not usually painful at all. The effect starts to take place between 3-10 days, and within 14 days the full effect will be seen. The elevation of the upper lip will gradually decrease over this time, resulting in less gum showing and transforming your smile!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although this all sounds simple and easy, it\u2019s important to be aware of potential consequences of injecting this area, and this is why it is so important to see a medical practitioner who is fully trained in delivering these injections. This area should be treated very conservatively, starting with only 1-2 units for each side. This is followed by a 2-week review, when more can be added if required. It is easy to add a little more if it\u2019s needed, but you can\u2019t take it away once injected!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
