Should you? Shouldn’t you? Life is more stressful than ever and we’re seeing the effects of that earlier on. The ‘B’ word used to be associated with a frozen, dramatic look but times are changing. The effects that can be achieved with treatment can be subtle and natural-looking. Here are some of the most common questions people ask before undergoing treatment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. What is Botox\u00ae?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Botox\u00ae is a trademark name for Botulinum toxin which is the neurotoxic protein injected to temporarily paralyse muscles. It relaxes the muscle and this makes the overlying skin appear smoother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Is it safe?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Botox\u00ae has an established safe history and there are no known long-term side effects. There are some short-term side effects associated with the injections (bleeding, bruising and infection). Additionally, there is a risk of a droopy eyelid with certain injections as the muscles are linked but this is non-permanent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Does it hurt?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Many people do not feel pain with the injections and at most, it is a small pinch. The injections are very quick so this is only for a few seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Is it permanent?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The effects of Botox\u00ae are not permanent and generally last 3-4 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. How long does it take to work?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It does not work instantly but you may see changes after 3-5 days. It will take up to 14 days for you to see the full effects. You will be reviewed after 2 weeks and your practitioner will work closely with you as additional injections may be required to help you to achieve your desired result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Is it addictive?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

There are no addictive elements in Botox\u00ae<\/sup>. People can become dependent on it because it helps them to look youthful but this is not a physical dependency. This is something you should discuss with your practitioner prior to treatment if you are concerned about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Will people know I’ve had it? <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Some people wish to achieve the frozen look whereas some are keen to still be able to express themselves. The correct technique and dose can be used to help you achieve the result you want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Can men have it done?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Botox\u00ae is becoming increasingly popular amongst men as the social taboo associated with it is dissipating. You should have a frank discussion with your practitioner about what your desired result is so they can help you to achieve this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Can I have it done if I’m pregnant?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

As there have been no studies carried out on pregnant women, it is best to avoid Botox\u00ae during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. Who should I get it done from?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Botox\u00ae can only be prescribed by a qualified medical practitioner such as a doctor or dentist. You should ensure your treatment is carried out by a qualified practitioner who is on a medical register to show they meet set standards in skill, training and insurance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
