What Age Should You Start Thinking About Botox®?

Do you have wrinkles that bother you? Thinking about fresher and rejuvenated skin? More and more people are turning to cosmetic injections to help reduce lines and wrinkles.

At what age should you start thinking about these treatments and what are the signs to look out for? Read more below…

Anti-wrinkle injections are the UK’s most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment. They work by injecting Botulinum Toxin (of which Botox® is a brand name) into muscles to reduce their movement. By reducing muscle movement this temporarily limits the wrinkles and creases that form in the skin.

Research shows the average age of a Botox® patient in the U.K is 35-44 years old with 70% of clients claiming they use the non-surgical treatment to look ‘a little fresher’.

By preventing muscle movement and early lines forming this treatment can help to reduce deep wrinkles forming in the future. Hence, younger patients may also seek treatment for preventative reasons.

It’s important to consider that we all have different genetics, lifestyles, stresses, diet etc. Our skin does not age at the same rate as our friends and colleagues. It is an individual’s choice when it is right for them to seek treatment.

General advice when considering treatment:

  1. Not suitable for under 18’s, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or if you have certain neuromuscular disorders.
  2. Average age to start treatment is 35-44 years old
  3. If you notice fine lines appearing in your late 20’s then you may also consider preventative treatment
  4. Wear SPF daily – it is the main cause of premature skin ageing!
  5. Botox® cannot completely erase deep-set lines and wrinkles. You may need a combination of treatments to address your skin concerns if this is the case.
