The 2 B’s…Botox® and Body Dysmorphia Disorder (BDD)

The NHS describe Body Dysmorphia Disorder otherwise known as BDD as ‘a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance’. These flaws aren’t often unnoticeable to others. Sadly, social media increases the pressure on people to look and live in a certain way, which is in turn fuelling mental health and anxiety.

As a medical practitioner, it is our duty of care to assess patients correctly before administering any aesthetic treatment. We know that it is really important for an individual to be in the right frame of mind before they consider or agree to any form of aesthetic treatment.

Here’s what we do at Unndoo to ensure that we understand our patients’ reasons for wanting aesthetic treatment:

  • We don’t treat any patients who are 18 years old or younger.
  • We carry out a thorough face to face consultation.
  • We ask all of our customers to point out areas that they want to improve.
  • We listen to our customers’ expectations and always inform them if their expectations are not realistic.
  • We use our medical expertise to assess whether the customer is suitable for treatment.
  • We are aware of the red flags of BDD and know where to refer our customers if we feel it is necessary.

As a team of medical professionals, we are fully trained to protect young people’s mental health.
