Botox Before Your Wedding: The Do’s and Don’ts
Botox is no longer just for those with wrinkles. According to an article in the Telegraph, more and more women are getting Botox before their weddings as a way of combatting ageing-related features like crow’s feet and frown lines that can make them look older than they are on their big day.
Injectables offer both immediate results by smoothing out fine lines, but also have long term benefits for your skin thanks to collagen stimulation which plumps up facial muscles over time, so you’re not left looking tired or drawn after wearing your smile all night.
The pros certainly outweigh the cons when it comes down to how much good these treatments can do – even if there may be some minor pain associated with injections (and potential risks). If you’re considering it (or even just want to learn more) make sure you know these do’s and don’ts before starting your treatment. You’ll be glad that you did!
Do Find The Right Practitioner
This is probably the number one rule! Find a MEDICALLY QUALIFIED PRACTITIONER (find yours here). That’s a no to any beauticians, hairdressers and generally anyone that hasn’t had medical training from university with an advanced course in facial aesthetics. As the saying goes, “you buy cheap, you buy twice”.
This is something we pride ourselves on, all of our practitioners go thorough vetting process:
- They must be medically qualified (a doctor, dentist, aesthetic pharmacist or nurse prescriber)
- Have a certificate from a reputable facial aesthetics academy
- Must have over 20 portfolio cases of Botox
- DBS checked
- Fully insured
- Go through scenario testing with our Chief Medical Officer
You can find all this information including their bio, registration number and qualifications on each practitioner’s bio page. So, you can really get to know them before booking.
Don’t Go For A Doctor/Dentist Based On Social Media Popularity
Always research the experience and credibility of your doctor first. Don’t go based on social media popularity or a friend’s opinion alone.
You can contact our Chief Medical Officer directly beforehand where you can talk through all your concerns. They’ll even advise if there are alternative options to Botox to suit your needs specifically and this is where our consultation-only appointment is vital. However, with every treatment you’ll also receive a full consultation before to reconfirm your expectations, wants, needs and for the practitioner to make sure nothing has changed medically. This gives you time, so you don’t feel pressured or rushed into a decision.
Request lighter doses for a natural look – more can always be added, that’s what the tweak/review follow up is for because we care about making you feel confident and happy in your own skin especially on your big day.
Do Plan In Advance
We recommend you plan your bridal Botox for at least 6 months in advance if possible.
At UNNDOO we always like to give a treatment and then assess if we need to do any tweaks through our complimentary tweak/review appointment (which you can book within 2 weeks of your first appointment. It takes up to two weeks for the full results to reveal, so at that point, we can fine-tune.
Botox lasts at least three months so after one treatment the bride will feel happy that the dose and result is right before a final commitment. Then we would re-treat at five weeks before the wedding day, giving us time to reassess and adjust if necessary.
Do Go With An Open Mind As To What Treatments You Need
Sometimes we find that our brides have a strong sense of exactly what they want and need and sometimes they are right but it’s important to understand that our practitioners are experts at what they do and have the experience to understand how different people’s muscles react to Botox. So, what you think you need and want may be different to the plan the practitioner creates for you.
Ultimately, we just want you to be satisfied by our service and the results you get.
Do Ask As Many Questions As You Want
By asking all the questions, you will certainly be given a sense of confidence in the process. It will answer any uncertainties and misconceptions that you may be having.
Also, it helps the practitioner to understand what you are looking for. Whilst, they’ll also have a list of questions to ask you, think of it as a conversation between two people where you learn from them, and they understand you. Most importantly there’s no such thing as a stupid question so ask away.
Don’t Think That More Is Better
Undoubtedly, the biggest mistake brides make with Botox is getting too much into their forehead and crow’s feet. The wrong placement into the forehead can make the brows either look heavy or give an exaggerated arch. Subtle dosing can give a lifted brow that looks natural.
But don’t worry, our practitioners are experienced in knowing how to give a subtle and natural look.
Don’t Overdo It With Multiple Other Aesthetics Treatments
When it comes to skincare for the big day, many brides think they need multiple treatments, back-to-back to get their desired look but this can be a bit overkill. Too many treatments at once can sometimes have a negative impact on your skin. The right treatment will ENHANCE NOT MODIFY.
Do Be Patient About Results
The beauty of Botox is that it’s minimally invasive and has limited downtime, but it can take up to 2 weeks for the results to show so please be patient. For some it can be less than a week for others it’s longer.
Don’t Forget To Follow The After-Care Instruction
After-care instructions are there for a reason to ensure safety and to give you the best possible result. They aren’t that strenuous, and most are only relevant for the first 24 hours such as not going to the gym or rubbing your face. It’s by far much easier than having cosmetic surgery.
