Am I Too Young For Botox®

In the past, Botox® has always been considered a treatment for older women who were looking to treat lines and wrinkles. Today with the rise of social media and pressure on women to look good, facial aesthetic treatments have never been so popular. And, it isn’t just the women in their 40s and 50s who are looking for these treatments; women in their 20s and 30s have also now turned to Botox® as a means to preserve their youth.

I often get younger women who come in for skin consults and ask “Am I too young for Botox®?”

The truth is there isn’t a simple “yes” or “no” answer.

Everyone’s skin ages at different rates and it depends on your skin type, race, genetics and lifestyle. Another point to note is that Botox® treatments aren’t solely used for aesthetics, they can also be used to treat a variety of dental and medical issues such as; a gummy smile or chronic headaches. The age at which these treatments can be administered will be down to the skill and discretion of your practitioner. There are a lot of factors to consider and therefore it is especially important to make sure your practitioner is trained to assess and treat you correctly.

When it comes to anti-ageing, I don’t believe Botox® is necessary in your early 20s. It is true you will see some signs of ageing in these years but there are other modalities which can slow that process down. For example, a good skincare routine that includes SPF. Looking after your skin is a must if you want younger-looking skin regardless of how old you are and what treatments you have done.

As you reach your late 20s, you may start seeing the appearance of fine lines of wrinkles and can use Botox® treatments as a preventative measure. Botox® works by restricting the movement of certain facial muscles, which helps to prevent deep lines and wrinkles forming. The results can last up to 4 months, but it is worth noting that for the treatment to slow down the ageing process you will need repeat treatment once the effect has worn off. With a good practitioner at hand, it is possible to use Botox® to maintain a youthful face that ages gracefully.
