As A Practitioner, These Are The Questions I Get Asked…

The prospect of having injections into the face may sound daunting and the first worries people understandably have are about what to expect.

Hopefully, after reading this short post it’ll reassure you that Botox® is safe, MHRA approved, the side effects are very minor and can be limited or prevented if you have your treatment done by a trained medical professional and follow the aftercare advice given!

From my experience as a practitioner, these are the most commonly heard phrases or questions I get asked…

“Cosmetic injections are painful!”

Yes, you may get a little pain, redness, bruising, bleeding or swelling – these are the most common side effects (if you even experience any that is!) and normally settle after a couple hours or a day. The injections are quick, use superfine needles and no anaesthetic is needed- if you feel anything it’ll be a pinch for just a split second! You’ll always be given aftercare advice as well.

“Will my face look frozen?”

Botox® works by relaxing the muscle injected, therefore reducing the contraction and smoothing the area. Only the area injected will be relaxed! Speaking to your practitioner to discuss your concerns will be key in tailoring the treatment/dose for the look you would like to achieve, and of course, this is where going to a trained medical professional is important if a natural, subtle result is what you’re looking for!

“Isn’t Botox® toxic?”

Botox® is safe and MHRA approved otherwise, of course, we wouldn’t be using it! It is temporary and lasts approximately 3-4 months. There are no long-term side effects recorded to date. In fact, did you know it would take a dose of more than 100 times the average dose given for cosmetic use for Botox® treatments to be fatal!

“Is it bad for me to have Botox® before I have wrinkles?”

I’m sure you have all heard the phrase ‘prevention is better than cure’, so no it is not bad! In fact, you can use Botox® to stop wrinkles from setting in the first place! Being proactive in your approach may also mean the treatment is actually needed less often when you’re older so you can maintain that youthful, glowy appearance!
