5 on 5 with Dr Winnie Uchendu

1) Are you a doctor or dentist? Why did you follow this path?

I am a GP Registrar with a special interest in lifestyle medicine and dermatology.  I saw medicine as a unique opportunity to empower others through communication and to have an impact on the wellbeing of communities. I have a huge appreciation for how varied a career in general practice can be, and how it can afford a great work-life balance.

2) Why did you get into facial aesthetics?

I developed an early interest in skincare because I struggled with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in my teens. As I began to learn more about the treatment of skin conditions and the maintenance of skin health, I also became captivated with the science of ageing and the various preventative treatments and therapies. I now really enjoy doing Botox as well as a whole range of other anti-ageing treatments.

3) Where would you like to see the industry go?

I am excited to see more emerging research on the power of natural ingredients, nutrition and physical health in anti-aging.

4) When you’re not doing Botox® what do you do?

In my free time, I am usually travelling, working out, or spending time with friends and family.

5) What would you say to someone getting Botox® for the first time?

I would advise that Botox should be used alongside a good at-home skincare routine to yield the best anti-ageing results. Ensuring good skin hydration, using topical retinoids, wearing daily SPF and having regular collagen induction therapies, are key in maintaining youthful skin.

And one more just for fun…

6) What’s your favourite TV show at the moment?

It’s definitely a guilty pleasure but at the moment I am loving Selling Sunset!
