5 on 5 with Dr Hollie Harris

1) Why did you get into facial aesthetics?

I really enjoy the cosmetic aspect of dentistry and find minimal treatments such as whitening very enjoyable to carry out. This led me to progress into the area of facial aesthetics. With facial aesthetics often such a small change can make such a big difference to a patient’s confidence and I find this very rewarding. I myself have anti-wrinkle injections regularly and find it makes such a difference to how I feel.

2) What would you say to someone thinking about getting Botox® for the first time?

I would encourage them to have a consultation with a reputable company or injector to see if suitable. If the treatment is appropriate for them, I would say go for it. It is a relatively safe procedure and is also temporary, so if you don’t like the results they will wear off!

3) What’s the most interesting question a customer has asked?

My patients often ask if I have Botox treatments myself and then this is usually followed up with the question of ‘why, you are too young?’. I was 28 when I started having Botox® treatments. For me I do not feel as though he was too early to start, I was starting to develop lines which were present at rest. Botox® will prevent these deepening and I also enjoy the other benefits such as a smooth forehead and raised eyebrows. I think a lot of people still have the stereotypical view of Botox as the ‘frozen’ unnatural look.

4) When you’re not doing Botox® would do you do?

I work as a dentist in practice 4 days a week and also work in Guy’s hospital on the acute dental care department as a locum. In my spare time, I regularly go to the gym as I feel that it is so important to keep physically healthy especially in this pandemic and this also helps with stress release. I also enjoy looking after my families two bulldogs.

5) Where would you like to see the industry go?

I would like to see the industry more regulated; it does concern me that non-medical practitioners can practice in this field with little regulation. This is for the safety of patients and also for the reputation of the field.
